Photonic Ink Technology

P-Ink combines the Photonic Crystal structure with electrically active polymer materials. When a voltage is applied to a P-Ink device, the active polymer increases or decreases in size, and this dimensional change will shift the color of light that are reflected from the material.

What it offers

  • Full color reflection from single material for low materials and production cost and streamlined device construction
  • High reflectivity, outstanding visibility in sunlight
  • Low power consumption (Low voltage and current during switching; Negligible power draw to maintain static image)
  • Heat management through controllable IR reflectivity
  • Applicable on rigid or flexible substrates
  • Lightweight, rugged, durable, and damage tolerant
  • Highly scalable production process

Potential Market Applications

  • Color Tunable Surfaces eg. Watches, mobile electronics, office partitions, vehicles,
  • Small Displays eg. (Electronic tags) to Large (Roadside digital signage), Potential for full-color e-paper
  • State-of-charge indicators
  • Tunable heat reflection
  • Active camouflage
